Where to Eat (and Drink) Right Now in Astoria:

A First Look at Pilot House Distilling’s New Tasting Room

If you’re searching for the best places to eat and drink in Astoria, Oregon—especially when it comes to craft cocktails and locally made spirits—let me introduce you to a new favorite: Pilot House Distilling. Their brand-new tasting room at 1343 Duane Street officially launched its cocktail program, and I had the chance to attend a special happy hour to check it out.

As a branding and hospitality photographer based in Astoria, I’m always on the lookout for spaces that feel as good as they look—and this one does not disappoint.

A Taste of the Coast: Behind the Bar at Pilot House Distilling

Pilot House Distilling has been crafting award-winning spirits since 2013, earning its nickname as “The Spirits of the Coast.” With a lineup that includes single-malt whisky, gins, absinthe, agave spirits, canned cocktails, and even vegan Bloody Mary mixes, they’ve truly become a destination for locals and travelers alike.

During the happy hour, I tried two cocktails from their brand-new menu:

  • Painted Blackberry Bramble – Made with their Painted Lady gin, this was light, refreshing, and had that perfect blackberry zing.

  • Key Lime Pie – A dessert cocktail dream, complete with a graham cracker rim that made every sip feel indulgent.

The New Space: Modern, Moody, and Full of Character

Located in the heart of historic downtown Astoria, the new tasting room is warm, moody, and incredibly photogenic (yes, my camera was very happy here). It’s cozy without feeling crowded, and whether you’re a cocktail lover or prefer a flight of spirits, the bartenders are ready to walk you through it all.

They also offer beer, non-alcoholic options, and a family-friendly environment—so while alcohol is reserved for guests 21+, the space is open to all ages.

For the Curious & Creative: The Experience Goes Beyond the Glass

One thing that stood out to me was how intentional the Pilot House team is about sharing the story behind each bottle. Whether you’re sipping their locally loved A-O whisky (crafted right here in Astoria) or sampling their infused vodkas, you’ll learn something new about the art of distilling.

If you’re a small business owner, bartender, chef, or creative entrepreneur looking to build your brand with lifestyle photography, this space is a dream backdrop. I photograph restaurants, bars, and local brands that want to showcase what they do with heart and style. This is the kind of place where the lighting, the drinks, and the energy all align—ideal for content that doesn’t feel staged but still looks so good.
