Where to Eat (and Drink) Right NOw: Stranded in Astoria, OR
When we walked into Stranded for a branding session, I expected to snap a few photos, sip something tasty, and maybe people-watch a bit. Instead, we ended up sipping Aquavit, eating flaming cheese, and jamming out on a random set of instruments like we had just stumbled into the most charming fever dream in the Pacific Northwest.
Stranded isn’t your average bar or restaurant. It’s a full experience. Every little detail—from the upcycled decor pulled from Astoria’s history to the mezcal-forward cocktail menu—is part of a bigger story. A really fun, really weird, really well-thought-out story.

What Makes Stranded Special?
The Vibe
Stranded leans into a look and feel that’s equal parts vintage and moody, with a touch of playful oddity. The lighting is cozy, the walls are covered in salvaged art and maps, and there’s a salvaged 1931 bar anchoring the room like it's always been there. And honestly? It just works. You can come in dressed up or totally casual and feel like you belong either way.
The Cocktails
Stranded’s drink menu is bold. Think smoky mezcal signatures, Aquavit-forward creations, thoughtfully paired boilermakers, and even tasting flights if you want to explore something new. Their cocktails aren’t just good, they’re rooted in local stories and history, which is such a cool touch.
The Food
The menu is Nordic-inspired and built for sharing, everything from trout salad and Swedish meatballs to the unforgettable flaming cheese and sweet lefse for dessert. It’s the kind of food that brings people together around a table (and yes, it photographs beautifully).
The Extras
There are musical instruments tucked around the space for guests to play, and it’s not unusual for someone to break into a spontaneous jam sesh. It’s quirky in the best way and just adds to the magic of the place.
Hot Summer Night at Stranded – July 24
If you're planning to check it out, Thursday, July 24 is the perfect night. As part of @astoriadowntown’s Hot Summer Night, Stranded will be hosting a full evening of happy hour specials, live music moments, and some sparkly surprises. You’ve been warned: it’ll be very fun.
If you’re looking for a place in Astoria where you can sip something smoky, snack on something salty, and accidentally play the tambourine while doing it, get yourself to Stranded. You won’t regret it.
